BIG EAGLE

ABOUT

DOCUMENTS IN LAW . HISTORY . DIPLOMACY
WHAT THIS IS

The Big Eagle Project gathers, into a single catalogue, primary-source archives that were published separately: Yale's Avalon Project, the Fondation Napoléon's Napoleonica, and the 1804 Code civil des Français. Every document is described by the same fields — so the Code of Hammurabi and a letter from Napoléon to his brother can be searched, sorted, and cited against one another.

Every document has a permanent address built from two immutable things: its provenance, and the identifier its source archive itself publishes. Arrangement — collections, periods, the Law/History/Diplomacy axes — is description, and description can change; addresses cannot.

RIGHTS

Public-domain documents are read here in full. Material held as a research mirror — the Napoleonica fonds — is searchable in the catalogue but is read at its source repository, whose terms govern it. Exports respect the same line.
